Meat the Need initiative benefits Timaru families

Timaru Salvation army corp leader Envoy Lynda Bright, left, and donor farmer Nicky Hyslop with some of the 60kg of meat donated through the Meat the Need initiative. Sixty kilograms of high quality beef mince will be distributed in Timaru Salvation Army food parcels thanks to a farmer-led initiative. Meat the Need, a charity set up by farmers to help feed New Zealand families who are struggling to make ends meet, began supplying meat packs to Timaru and Geraldine last week. Timaru Salvation Army accepted its first delivery on Friday and Envoy Lynda Bright said the high quality beef mince was destined for families that "make do". The first 5000 packs of meat processed and donated by Silver Fern Farms was delivered to Christchurch City Mission in April.
