READER REPORT: Meat is unnecessary, so is killing animals DR MICHAEL CHARLES MORRISSUPPLIEDThe terms welfare and rights are often portrayed as diametrically opposing ideals. We now know that eating animals is not necessary for a healthy life, and it is harming our health and our planet. Possibly because of the historical belief in its necessity, which made eating animals a special case. In other words, animals are sentient, and this is now so widely acknowledged that it is written into our law. On the one side is reason, family values, economic prosperity and a proper place for animals.
