McDonald's has launched its McVeggie burger in restaurants nationwide – but it's not actually suitable for vegetarians. McDonald's spokesman Simon Kenny said the brand hadn't made "any vegetarian claims with this product", instead billing it as an option for "flexitarians". "We know there will be vegetarians that are disappointed this isn't a vegetarian product," he said. Philip McKibbin, spokesperson for the NZ Vegetarian Society, said the name "strongly" suggested the burger was vegetarian. The name had been tested to make sure people were aware that the burger was not 100 per cent vegetarian, he said.
