There were positive signs for Auston Matthews Monday, as he continued his rehab from an injury that has kept him out of the Leafs’ lineup for a week now. Matthews skated on his own prior to Monday’s practice, and if all goes well over the next two days, the star centre could be ready to play in Thursday’s home game against New Jersey. Leafs coach Mike Babcock said Matthews will continue to skate (on his own) Tuesday, then rejoin the team in practice Wednesday. The Leafs are enjoying a four-day break between games after winning four in a row, three of them without Matthews. Matthews, who is recovering from an upper body injury, has not been on the ice with the team since Nov. 6.
