Edmonton orthopedic surgeons are warning of widespread surgery cancellations in coming weeks due to a funding dispute over how Alberta compensates another group of hospital doctors. The email stated those documents had been sent to Primary and Preventative Health Services Minister Adriana LaGrange and Hospital and Surgical Health Services Minister Matt Jones. But the provincial government and Alberta Health Services are terminating the stipends in favour of "alternative relationship plans," known as ARPs. “The Misericordia Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Orthopedic Surgery Centre and University Hospital all depend on hospitalist co‐management. “Without the surgical hospitalists co-managed care, orthopedic residents will need to be consolidated to a single site for call coverage.
