ISE-SHIMA, Japan – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been “the driving force” who has convinced other leaders at the G7 leader’s summit to agree never to pay ransoms to kidnappers, a senior Canadian diplomat said Thursday. A reference to G7 countries not paying kidnappers will be included in the final communiqué to be issued at the end of the G7 summit on Friday, Boehm said. An online report out of the Philippines says Trudeau has received an apology from Filipino president-elect Rodrigo Duterte for the killing of Ridsdel. “It is about relationship-building and looking at world problems in a proactive way,” Canada’s former ambassador to Germany said. According to The Canadian Press, the report said Duterte apologized to Trudeau on Tuesday when the PM called to congratulate him on his recent election victory.
