A large brown trout caught near Twizel is weighed in Pleasant Point in October 2020. A massive brown trout caught from the Mackenzie hydro canals, near Twizel, in 2020 has officially been recognised as a record breaker. According to the International Game Fish Association website the record is now held by Seumas Petrie. In January 2019 there were reports from eyewitnesses who said they saw an angler land a 55-pound brown trout in the Pukaki-Ōhau A canal. In September 2016, Nelson fisherman Bryce Helms caught a brown trout in a canal near Twizel which tipped the scales at 19.05kg.
