Maserati To Add A Second, Smaller SUV By 2020

MaseratiLess than a year after the launch of its first-ever SUV, Maserati is considering building a second, smaller crossover to help reach earnings targets. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call last week that a smaller SUV could join the Levante in the Italian sports car maker’s lineup by 2020. The five-passenger Maserati Levante SUV, which already accounts for 40% of the brand’s U.S. sales, is on track to become Maserati’s bestselling vehicle by the end of the year. “I can tell you right now that the underpinnings of the Maserati to come is shared with Alfa, Marchionne said. The new Maserati SUV would join a spate of luxury utility vehicles expected over the next couple years including the Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Aston Martin DBX, and third-generation Cayenne.
