Mary Quant at V&A Dundee: when fashion made us twist and shout

Mary Quant started a revolution when she skipped on to the womenswear scene in the mid-1950s. Before she disrupted the establishment in a swirl of miniskirts, bright tights and daisy logos, Britain was emerging from rationing. Women weren’t allowed to wear trousers in formal settings, and you could only access fashion if you were wealthy and didn’t mind being uncomfortable. The V&A Dundee is reopening after lockdown with an exhibition of Mary Quant, a vivid retrospective of the designer’s work. Before Quant left art school and set up her Bazaar boutiques, fashion was a different world.
