Marni Soupcoff: Andrew Scheer is absolutely right to fight for free speech on campuses

The day Andrew Scheer won the Conservative Party leadership, Paul Wells suggested in a Maclean’s piece that Scheer will quickly learn to be careful what he wishes for. So, there, now; we can all see how naive and silly his proposal is (or so Wells seems to be saying). One wonders why it’s so difficult for Wells to imagine the federal government taking a truly even-handed approach to individual rights in education. There’s no way I’m going to be seen helping anti-Israel crazies!”The expectation is that Scheer wouldn’t commit to campus free speech if he knew what it would look like in practice. Wells is probably right that Scheer “needs to put real meat on the bones of his Conservatism” in the next couple months.
