The S&P 500 ended the year down 6.2 percent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average 5.6 percent. On Monday, the S&P 500 added 21 points, or 0.8 percent, to 2,506. The S&P 500 rose 8 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,494. Big-name technology companies and retailers, which have been badly bruised in the barrage of selling this month, clawed higher early Monday. The S&P 500 rose 22 points, or 0.9 percent, to 2,508.
