Mark Giordano named Flames' nominee for Masterton Trophy

This shouldn’t be the only season-end award that Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano is up for. Giordano has been announced as the Flames’ nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, an annual nod to the player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”Calgary’s heart-and-soul leader is, of course, also considered a frontrunner for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenceman. The team nominee for the Masterton Memorial Trophy is voted by the local chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. An inspiration for the undrafted yet undeterred, Giordano has now played more regular-season games than any other defencemen in Flames’ franchise history. This is the second time Giordano has been selected by the Calgary chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association as the Flames’ nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.”From the slate of league-wide nominees, three finalists will be announced and invited to the NHL’s awards gala in Las Vegas.
