The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) announced last week that it has started work to facilitate a initiative coined "Hay West," that will see surplus hay from farmers in eastern Canada sent west — where dire hay and feed shortages loom. Tim Marsh, president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, said farmers in his province have extra and want to help out. CBC News requested information on Hay West from the federal government on Friday, but has yet to receive a response. "[But] if we can help somebody and help a few farmers maintain, then that's what we're going to do." The CFA said in a release that it is also looking to work with the railways and the government to help farmers that are in dire need of feed.
