Last year Waimea captain Ben Eder, right, hoisted the Nelson Division 1 rugby trophy after a two point win over Marist; but this year Marist captain Jacob Norris got the honour after a 34-32 victory. An inexperienced observer could be forgiven for thinking Nelson's Division 1 rugby final was wrapped up by halftime. Marist made all the running in the first 40 minutes at Trafalgar Park on Saturday and were up 23-6 at the break over Waimea Old Boys. In more than 280 minutes of rugby last season the two teams had been separated by one point, sharing the two major Tasman titles. It reversed the Car Company Division 1 final result last year when Waimea scored in extra time to win 25-23.
