Born with hollow visceral myopathy, a rare degenerative neuromuscular disease of the digestive system, Marianne is unable to absorb nutrients and relies on continuous intravenous feeding through tubes into the bloodstream above her heart. Marianne is dying and waiting anxiously on the Australian organ transplant list, for a new stomach, duodenum, small bowel, pancreas, liver and colon. If a donor is found, Marianne will be among the first people in Australia to undergo a high-risk six organ transplant. One of Marianne's close friends underwent a five organ transplant more than three years ago. The risk of complications, infections and organ rejection dwindles as the weeks go on.
