Marcos Bridge to be closed on Saturday — MMDABy The Manila TimesTHE Marcos Bridge in Marikina City will be closed on Saturday for rehabilitation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Thursday. MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia Jr. said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) gave the go-signal after the MMDA arranged a new traffic rerouting scheme. Built in 1987, the bridge underwent rehabilitation last year. On Saturday, the eastbound side of Marcos Bridge will be closed for four months, after which the westbound side will follow. Garcia said the temporary closure may cause traffic jams along Katipunan Avenue and nearby roads areas as an estimated 6,000 vehicles ply through the bridge every hour.
