KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian student Nur Afifah Elias made the country proud when she was announced the runner-up of the Foreign Student Mandarin Public Speaking Competition 2017 in Beijing, China on Wednesday. Nur Afifah, who earned a scholarship from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), is studying Mandarin at the Beijing International University. Another Malaysian student, Lin Syahirah Hishamuddin, from the Beijing Language and Culture University, received a consolation prize. In a statement, the Malaysia Education Department to Beijing said through the competition, Malaysian students had demonstrated their outstanding ability to master Mandarin. Education Malaysia Beijing also hopes that efforts to send Malaysian students to China will be continuous, as it will also strengthen the relationship between Malaysia and the Republic.
