One of the Palmerston North Girls' High School teams takes on the Defence Force's "Battle of the Bridges" obstacle course race in The Square, Palmerston North, on Tuesday. Manawatū students built bridges and competed to be the fastest to get over them in a New Zealand Defence Force challenge. The Battle of the Bridges involved more than 100 students from six Manawatū secondary schools improvising bridges to navigate an obstacle course in The Square, Palmerston North, on Tuesday. Manukura's team one took home a replica of the original Scot's Cup, with a best time of 3 minutes and 55 seconds, and Palmerston North Girls' High School team two was just 33 seconds behind. Palmerston North Girls' High student Jess Azevedo-Leader, 17, said getting the knots secure was difficult enough without the discomforting sensation of wet flour drying and hardening on skin breaking her concentration.
