Chanu filled the coffers of the Indian Weightlifting Federation with a gold after a gap of 20 years. Chanu clinched the gold in the 48kg category of the IWF Senior (Men and Women) World Weightlifting Championship which is being held at Anheim, US, from November 28 to December 5. Chanu lifted 85kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk for a total of 194kg to lay her hand on the gold medal. He added that Chanu's gold medal has reaffirmed Manipur's place in the sporting world. Chanu also created a new record and improved her previous performance in the clean and jerk category by lifting 109kg this time.
