Manhunt follows armed robbery at Masterton bar

The Jackson Street Bar, formerly known as The Horse and Hound, has undergone a refit. Staff and patrons at a Masterton bar were left shaken on Tuesday day night after being confronted by an armed, balaclava-clad man demanding cash. Detective senior sergeant Barry Bysouth said the man entered Jackson Street Bar about 10pm and threatened bar staff. The Jackson Street Bar is owned by Wairarapa-based community enterprise Trust House, which owns a range of hospitality venues throughout the Lower North Island. Co-incidentally, staff at one of Trust House’s sister establishments, the Kuripuni Sports Bar in Masterton, were given training the day before on how to deal with armed confrontations.
