Mangar Bani is considered to be the last and the only remaining virgin forest area of Delhi-NCR. The Haryana government on Monday issued a notification stating that Mangar Bani is a ‘no-construction zone’ now and it will soon be included in the sub-regional plan. ‘Bani’ is a block of forest area with dense tree cover that falls within Mangar and Bandhwari villages. The 677.12 acres of Mangar Bani and its buffer area of 1,266.91 acres are now free from encroachment. Expressing a similar opinion, environmentalist Chetan Agarwal said, “This is a welcome move to notify the Mangar Bani and its buffer on scientific principles as a ‘no-construction zone’.
