Confirming the incident, Lafey OCPD, Bosita Omukongolo said the incident happened on Sunday at 10 am when the officers were on patrol. Several police officers in Mandera are nursing injuries after their vehicle hit a landmine believed to have been planted by the Al-Shabaab militia group. Omukongolo said the police were heading to Fino from Lafey in two vehicles when the front car ran over the landmine. The Mandera County commissioner, Fredrick Shisia called on the residents to be careful. ‘'The officers are now in stable condition as they were treated at the Fino Health Centre.
