Madrid therefore reluctantly decided to sell Varane but the La Liga giants had initially sought around £70m for the World Cup winner. However, United knew they were in a strong bargaining position and reputable French outlet RMC say an agreement is just ‘hours’ away. Varane will become United’s second signing of the summer following the £73m acquisition of Jadon Sancho from Dortmund. Brandon Williams is expected to join Southampton on loan but United are asking for a £2m fee.
