Man with arthritis conquers KL Tower - Nation

KUALA LUMPUR: In the most painful years of his life, Bak Zi Yang (pic) had to depend on a walking stick and struggled to even put one foot in front of the other. Bak, 33, was diagnosed 12 years ago with ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic, inflammatory arthritis that causes fusion of the spine. Yesterday, he achieved the monumental feat of racing up 2,058 steps to the top of the 288m KL Tower in just 27 minutes. Bak, a firm believer that life is too short to be dull, completed the challenge as a participant of the KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2019. “It’s exciting to challenge yourself to do something for your life,” said Bak, who joined his first marathon in August last year.
