Sumon was arrested on July 12 after his stepdaughter started a case at Ramna Police Station the previous day. The 20-year-old alleged in the case that Sumon raped her for the first time nine years ago and took photos of the incident. According to the case dossier, Sumon married the alleged victim’s mother in 2005 after her mother had divorced her father. The plaintiff started to stay in Sumon’s house a year later. Sumon raped her at their Mohammadpur house in her mother’s absence when she was 12 years old in 2008.
