Man-made pollution still major threat to ecosystems 0 SHARES Share it! Share TweetBy Ellalyn De Vera-RuizMan-made pollution continues to be a major threat to the survival of biodiversity and ecosystems across the ASEAN region, according to the Philippines-based ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB). Likewise, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that indoor air pollution in the ASEAN region caused more than 376,000 premature deaths; while outdoor air pollution was estimated to cause more than 149,000 premature deaths annually. While humans rely on the planet’s rich biodiversity and ecosystems, Lim said this richness is threatened by pollution, one of the major drivers of biodiversity loss and ecosystems degradation. UNEP has identified five major sources of air pollution: households, industries, transport, agriculture, and wastes.
