A 37-year-old man from Ghatkopar, Anwar Shaikh, committed suicide on Wednesday by consuming poison after a cricket bookie denied returning the money he had given for betting in a cricket match. According to the police, Shaikh had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from his friends for betting in a cricket match which he had allegedly given to Dipen Patel, a bookie. The police said that despite Shaikh winning the bet, Patel did not return the money and profit margin. After he consumed poison at his residence, Shaikh was immediately rushed to Rajawadi hospital where he succumbed. “The accused has been traced and we would arrest him soon,” said Senior police officer Vilas Jadhav.
