Arumugam had had a strained relationship with her since she refused to transfer the land in his name. "Arumugam assaulted his mother following a quarrel when she took her cattle for grazing. When she fell asleep, Arumugam and his wife, Priya, smothered her. They kept her body in their house," said a police official.The next day, they tried to dispose of the body by torching it. "He also sold the cattle owned by her mother," said the police.The police picked Arumugam and his wife for inquiry.
