Man held for stealing P.8 million ventilatorMANILA, Philippines — A 27-year-old man was apprehended on Tuesday after he allegedly stole a ventilator or life support machine worth P800,000 from a hospital in Barangay New Era, Quezon City, which he sold online for P55,000. Paulo Miguel Sumbad, who works as a respiratory therapist for the hospital’s third party equipment provider, was taken into police custody. Probers said a company representative discovered that the ventilator was missing during an inventory. Security personnel of the hospital said Sumbad was recorded on closed-circuit television footage stealing the ventilator. Police said the suspect admitted that he sold the equipment online for P55,000 to an anonymous buyer.
