Man drowns, another injured in Langkawi boat capsize incident


LANGKAWI: A fisherman drowned while another sustained broken arm when their boat crashed into a rock following strong waves near Burau Bay coastline here this afternoon. The incident occurred at 1.30pm when Ajis Omar, 51, and Shukri Saad, 50, were in a fishing trip near a location known as Anak Burau near the area. Langkawi police chief Assistant Commissioner Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said Ajis's body was found at Telaga Harbour park estuary while Shukri was washed up unto a rock near the location where their boat capsized. Initial investigation showed their boat had crashed into the rock when it was hit by strong waves. Meanwhile, Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Public Relations Officer Mohd Mustakim Mokhtar said a team from the Langkawi fire station was despatched to the location at 1.50pm after receiving a report on the incident.
