The shootout occurred at Pipulbarhia’s Kalurmath area near the Daulatpur-Katlamari road around 3:30am on Monday night, said Shah Dara Khan, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Altab Hossain, a resident of Bilboalia village in the upazila’s Boalia Union. The OC said a Daulatpur police team went to Kalurmath based on a tip that a gang was preparing to commit crimes in the area. He said, Altab was a known criminal and was named in several cases, including murder, mugging motorcycles and others. Three police personnel – including sub-inspector Razzak and assistant sub-inspector Arif, were injured in the gunfight, OC Khan said, adding that a foreign shotgun, ammunition and three sharp weapons were recovered from the scene.
