A 60-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after he intervened in an "altercation" with a group of youths. Police said the altercation, between the group and another man, took place at an address in Weymouth, south Auckland about 1am Thursday. Detective senior sergeant Veronica McPherson from the Counties Manukau Police said the 60-year-old man had suffered serious injury and was in a critical condition in Middlemore Hospital. McPherson said police were speaking with two 17-year-olds in relation to the assault.
