Man arrested in Sabah 'tourism centre project' scam - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a 43-year-old man as part of investigations into a property investment syndicate targeting China, Hong Kong and Taiwanese nationals. The syndicate is said to have collected millions of ringgit from the "investors", even throwing a lavish gala dinner at a five-star resort when it launched the "tourism centre project" last week. The scam was uncovered after a senior City Hall officer lodged a police report that the company set up by the syndicate had no approval to undertake and market the project. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said the suspect, who was arrested on Oct 17, from Kedah has a record for gang robbery and kidnapping. Also seized were files and copies of trading licences bearing the names Sky World Holdings, Sky World Global and Sky World City City Sdn Bhd.
