Man arrested following standoff in west end St. John's


A police standoff that lasted hours Thursday afternoon in the west end of St. John's has ended. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says officers arrested one man "without incident" on Earhart Street, following a multi-hour standoff. Armed police officers had surrounded the home on Thursday afternoon, setting up a "containment zone" on the street near Bowring Park, after a man barricaded himself inside the residence. Geoff Higdon, police had reason to suspect the man was armed. The road had been blocked off for hours, while officers were outside the home.
