Manchester City Women have joined forces with scientists at the English Institute of Sport in a "world-leading" research collaboration to accelerate the understanding of female athlete health. "Everybody is different first and foremost when it comes to your menstrual cycle and it affects people differently. Richard Burden, co-lead for female athlete health at the EIS, told Sky Sports News: "Society is telling us we need to support female athlete health better. "One of the fundamental barriers to us being able to support athletes is understanding the female menstrual cycle and the barriers to understanding the menstrual cycle is actually being able to understand the hormones frequently enough to paint a picture. GB modern pentathlete Jess Varley was one of those taking part in the trial and feels finally understanding her menstrual cycle has lifted a huge worry.
