Malnutrition kills more Indians than any specific disease. Governments eagerly grab at ‘technical fixes’ like new vaccines or programmes for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Underfed mothers, under-age motherhood and poor ante-natal care are the major causes for underweight or premature babies.
