Malaysia halts imports of rockmelons from Australia - Nation

CYBERJAYA: Malaysia has temporarily halted the imports of rockmelons from Australia, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. Media reports say so far, four persons have died in Sydney while many were facing health problems in Australia after consuming contaminated rockmelons. The rockmelons were reportedly contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, said the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister. Ahmad Shabery said the action to halt imports of rockmelons were taken due to concerns over contamination from that country. "The entry of rockmelons from Australia will be halted until the situation improves," he told reporters after presenting his ministry's Excellent Service Award 2017 here Friday (March 9).
