MALACCA: An office block where commercial lots have been converted into hostels here is a firetrap, said Malacca Historic City Council (MBMB) publicity officer Ricky Tan. “The commercial lots are not meant for large numbers of residents. He said checks with the council building unit show that there were no applications from the owners to convert the lots into hostels. Tan said each lot in the office block could house 16 students. “We will help the owners convert their premises into hostels with proper safety features,” he added.
