Makati suspends weekend markets due to coronavirus threat


MANILA, Philippines — The Salcedo and Legaspi weekend markets in Makati has been suspended on March 14 and 15 due to the coronavirus threat, Mayor Abby Binay announced in her Twitter account on Wednesday. “My dear Makatizens, in the interest of public safety, the Salcedo and Legaspi weekend markets are cancelled this Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15,” Binay said on its official Twitter page. COVID-19 is caused by the novel coronavirus, which was first reported in Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province in late 2019. The International on Taxonomy of Viruses named the new coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2. The novel coronavirus causes respiratory symptoms, including fever, coughing, and colds.
