Major search for yacht in distress ends with a call to Northland police

Frigate HMNZS Te Kaha searched through Wednesday night to find the yacht Tribe believed to be in distress. Photo / FileSailors aboard a yacht feared missing since Wednesday night ended a major search and rescue operation with a call to Northland police asking if they were been looked for. Search and rescue officers initially locked their sights on Waiheke but found no trace of the vessel. Search and Rescue officer Tracy Brickles said the search had been troubled by the yacht failing to provide the name of the vessel when it made the Mayday call. Search and rescue officers believed they were further hampered with an incorrect location in the call.
