This begins the main phase of construction for Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant. Hasina stood on a temporary stage at the site and used a trowel to pour the first concrete casting. The sub-base is being built this year as preparation for the construction of the reactor. The government hopes the first unit of the Rooppur plant will add 1,200 megawatts of power to the national grid in mid-2023.
