Some of the reforms introduced include rationalisation of technical meetings, which should now take four days. The reforms the Secretary General has introduced are aimed at addressing the financial crunch the East African Community is currently experiencing. In response, EAC management introduced cost-cutting measures and reforms on the key expenditure items to be implemented immediately in the commission's organs and institutions. Stringent expenditure reforms have been instituted in EAC organs and institutions by the community's Secretary General Liberat Mfumukeko. The reforms seem to have been inspired by Tanzania President John Magufuli who has introduced austerity measures since he took over the presidency.
