The authors wrote: 'Over the last two decades the position of the north magnetic pole has been largely determined by two large-scale lobes of negative magnetic flux on the core–mantle boundary under Canada and Siberia.' The study comes after the latest World Magnetic Model, which tracks the movement of the Earth’s magnetic field, showed that the magnetic north is moving at a rate of 30 miles per year in December last year.
