The socialist president accused Venezuela’s opposition leader of treason for holding talks with Mrs May at Downing Street during a European tour to rally international support. “It makes no difference to me what Merkel says or the Queen of England. We don’t take orders from London or Madrid or Washington,” Mr Maduro told his new constituent assembly, which he formed to replace the opposition-held legislature in a move that triggered months of deadly protests. Mrs May met Julio Borges at No 10 yesterday and pledged her “unwavering support” for him.
