Trinity Mirror deal with Richard Desmond would also include his magazines OK!, New! and StarThe publisher of the Daily Mirror is in advanced talks with Richard Desmond to buy the Daily Express, Sunday Express and Daily Star and magazines including OK!, in a deal thought to be worth about £130m. The move will bring together the Labour-supporting Mirror titles with the Brexit-backing Express titles – Desmond donated £1m to Ukip ahead of the general election and appointed Ukip peer Lord Stevens as his deputy chairman. “The merger of national media titles would have implications for media plurality and diversity,” said the NUJ acting general secretary, Séamus Dooley. Trinity Mirror will almost certainly look how to share editorial content across papers – without damaging the brands – as it has done with the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and the People, and Desmond has done at Express Newspapers.
