Madhya Pradesh courts turn green champions

The Gwalior bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court is donning the role of a green warrior even while discharging its duties. On Thursday, it granted bail to the Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation and former Gwalior Development Authority CEO, Suresh Kumar, an accused in a case, on one condition: Plant 25 trees within 30 days. Also, he will have to install ‘tree guards’ for the plants and nurture them and submit a report of his work to the court after a year. Kumar’s lawyer, Raghvendra Dixit, said while staying in the position of GDA CEO, Suresh Kumar had ordered the demolition of an under-construction house in Transport Nagar. If less than 160 plants remain out of the 200, he will have to face a jail sentence for one month.
