Thousands of graduate students are at risk of losing their access to health and dental insurance because the union that represents them has incurred almost $2 million in debt. According to a statement made by Memorial University’s Graduate Students’ Union (GSU), it owes approximately $1.6 million to insurance provider GreenShield and $355,000 to the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS). (CBC)Murugan said it would also mean there would be no one to advocate for graduate students within the university. “It would mean a huge loss of graduate student representation on all decision-making bodies such as the Senate, the Board of Regents, all the councils and committees that graduate student representatives sit on,” said Murugan. Calls for an end to the GSUSo far, the petition calling for dissolution of the GSU has 47 signatures from graduate students.
