The attack, which happened yesterday, was identified early and the parliamentary authorities believe that they acted quickly enough to stop it causing any damage. Sir Paul Grice, the Scottish parliament’s chief executive, has written to all MSPs and staff, warning them to change passwords and watch out for signs of hackers attempting to break in to their email accounts. The attack, described as a “brute- force” cyberassault, involved a broad sweep of parliamentary email addresses, trying different passwords in an attempt to get through.
