Butere MP Andrew Toboso has said NCIC should be held to account over the spread of hate speech. The ODM MP also accused the State of overreacting when it arrested Cord legislators over suspected hate speech. "The rampant hate speech is a symptom of the uncomfortable state of affairs Kenyans are harbouring within themselves," the MP said. They were charged alongside Jubilee MPs Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) Ferdinard Waititu (Kabete) as well as Cord's Florence Mutua and Aisha Jumwa - Busia and Kilifi woman representatives respectively.
