BATU PAHAT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized a total of 1,200 cartons of contraband cigarettes worth RM120,000 in Sungai Rengit near here. Its Batu Pahat director Lieutenant Commander Maritime Muhammad Zulkarnain Abdullah said that the cigarettes were found on a boat and were believed to have been smuggled from Indonesia into the country. "MMEA personnel on patrol duty had noticed the boat entering the Sungai Rengit waters and had approached it for inspection during the incident at around 1.30am today," he said in a statement Sunday. He added that MMEA would beef up its operation in an effort to curb such cases from happening again in the future. Muhammad Zulkarnain urged the public to report to the agency if they noticed any suspicious activity by calling its Batu Pahat operation centre at 07-4344020.
